Our School

Background and Philosophy

Founded in 2006 by Alexandra Wlodkowski (Sasha), Dirigo Montessori School (DMS) was created to provide families in Ellsworth, Maine and surrounding towns with a quality option for their children’s preschool and Kindergarten needs. The school encompasses the philosophy and educational approach espoused by Dr. Maria Montessori while simultaneously integrating new ideas which broaden and enhance the program. DMS views each child as an individual with a unique background, personality, maturity and intellect. Moreover, DMS encourages a “whole family” approach to learning and strives to provide opportunities for parents and teachers to work together, share and learn from one another.  We are committed to providing our children the most positive and enriching educational experience.

Location

DMS is located at 25 Guptil Farm Road in Ellsworth. Our school is nestled in a quiet subdivision conveniently situated off the Christian Ridge Road, close to town, shopping, and other local amenities. Our phone number is (207) 669-5249.  DMS is a private institution with no religious affiliation.

Facilities

Our school features spacious classroom areas with observation windows to each room, kitchen amenities, child-sized restroom, and abundant sunshine throughout. Our fenced outdoor area emphasizes play in the natural world with materials for gardening, musical exploration, sand play, and nature-based creative construction with loose-parts. The play yard is also an area for large motor development with areas for climbing, sliding, balancing, and plenty of room for running and playing.

Meet the Teachers…

Miss Sasha has a passion for discovering the individual within the child during the pre-school/ kindergarten years.

The mission of Dirigo Montessori School is to provide creative and stimulating intellectual, artistic, and developmental experiences for pre-school and kindergarten aged children (3-6 years old). We strive to nurture each child’s innate desire to learn and to foster his/her natural curiosity and love of knowledge. True to the classical origin of its name, Dirigo Montessori School mentors its students in their first steps to becoming tomorrow’s leaders.
