Each year on September 21st, we mark the occasion of International Peace Day. Our Montessori school always participates by joining other schools around the globe in the signing of Shelley Murley’s, ‘Light a Candle for Peace.’ We also take this opportunity to have the children complete a collaborative art project, highlighting the ways in which we work together as a classroom community. This year, the students each decorated a large craft stick with images reminding them of peace. We assembled them into a colorful collage, bringing forth the idea of how individual people come together to create one cohesive unit.

“The child should love everything that he learns, for his mental and emotional growths are linked. Whatever is presented to him must be made beautiful and clear, striking his imagination.”
– Maria Montessori
